Start Date: Friday, February 21, 2020 End date: Sunday, December 20, 2020 STORY The musical Daens takes us back to Aalst in 1888. The population there works under deplorable conditions in the textile factories: they are abused and exploited by the wealthy factory directors. This is the situation priest Adolf Daens (Peter Van de Velde) finds upon returning to his hometown of Aalst after a conflict with Bishop Stillemans (Jo De Meyere). The local industrialist has fired half of his workers and is supported by the chairman of the Catholic Party. Daens opposes these dismissals and the abuses in the textile factories. In his struggle, Daens receives the support of Nette (Free Souffriau), only seventeen but already the breadwinner for her entire family. The liberals and socialists also choose to side with the people. One of those socialists is Jan De Meeter (Jelle Cleymans). Amidst the social unrest and harsh living conditions, a forbidden love blossoms between the Catholic girl and the seasoned socialist. Studio 100 has the ambition to make this production Daens 2.0. The life and message of Father Daens have become a source of inspiration for every new generation. The moving grandstands and stage sets provide a unique, new version of this successful musical. An unforgettable experience for the audience is guaranteed by the expansive playing field, state-of-the-art theater techniques, and a high-quality audio system with headphones that previously proved its worth during the spectacle musical 40-45.CONCEPT
