Cirque du Soleil settles in Antwerp in 2019
The international company Cirque du Soleil will descend on Antwerp's Sportpaleis from March 14 to 17, 2019. The spectacle ‘Toruk,’ inspired by James Cameron's film ‘Avatar,’ will be staged there. The company announced this on Tuesday. Cirque du Soleil takes the viewer into James Cameron's universe, and also showcases the director's trademark, including multimedia projections and a soundtrack ‘with cinematic touches. The show is narrated by a Na'vi, the name of the indigenous people on the planet Pandora whose story ‘Avatar’ tells. ‘Toruk’ is set thousands of years before the film's intrigue. A disaster threatens to destroy the tree of souls, and two boys from the Omatikaya tribe set out to investigate, along with their new friend Tsyal, from the Toruk, a predator who rules the heavens of Pandora, that it might help them save the tree sacred to the Na'vi. Artistic direction is in the hands of Guy Laliberté and Jean-François Bouchard for Cirque du Soleil, as well as James Cameron, Jon Landau, Kathy Franklin and Richie Baneham of Lightstorm Entertainment.
